6-Pin Deutsch Connector Repinning Guide

Our tail light patch looms are designed to suit LED Autolamps and OzLED aftermarket tail lights.

If you are installing a different set of aftermarket tail lights and the wiring configuration does not match your vehicle or patch loom, the 6-pin Deutsch connector may need to be repinned. This guide explains the basic procedure for safely repositioning the terminals within the connector.

Important – Before You Begin

Do not cut or remove any connectors from the supplied loom. Cutting, removing, or permanently modifying connectors may void applicable warranties and may prevent the product from being returned for a refund.

Before repinning the Deutsch connector, ensure the vehicle is completely switched off and that no voltage is being supplied to the connector.

Accidentally shorting terminals during the repinning process may damage vehicle wiring, fuses, control modules, or other electrical components.

For maximum safety, we recommend disconnecting the vehicle battery before beginning.

Repinning the 6-Pin Deutsch Connector

  1. Disconnect the vehicle battery.
Ensure the ignition is switched off before disconnecting the battery.

  2. Remove the orange secondary locking tab.
Carefully remove the orange locking retainer from the front of the Deutsch connector.

  3. Release the terminal locking tab.
Using a small flat-blade screwdriver or suitable pick tool, gently move the internal plastic locking tab away from the terminal you wish to remove.

  4. Remove the terminal.
While holding the locking tab released, gently pull the corresponding wire from the rear of the Deutsch connector. The terminal should slide out without excessive force.

  5. Reposition the required wires.
Repeat the process as required until the terminals have been configured to suit the wiring arrangement of your tail lights.

  6. Check each terminal is securely locked.
Once a terminal has been inserted into its new position, gently pull on the wire to confirm that it has correctly engaged with the internal locking mechanism.

  7. Refit the orange secondary locking tab.
Reinstall the orange locking retainer into the Deutsch connector. Ensure it is fully seated before continuing.

  8. Reconnect the loom to the vehicle.
Confirm that all connectors are securely fitted and that no terminals or wiring have been damaged during the repinning process.

  9. Reconnect the vehicle battery.

  10. Test all tail light functions.
Before driving the vehicle, confirm correct operation of all applicable lighting functions, including:

    1. Tail lights

    2. Brake lights

    3. Indicators

    4. Reverse lights

Important

Always confirm the wiring requirements of the aftermarket tail lights being installed before changing terminal positions. Wiring colours and pin assignments can vary between manufacturers and light assemblies.
